Fiber is the portion of plant food that is not digested by the body and is often referred to as roughage. Fiber cleanses the intestinal tract and enhances its function, thereby helping nearly every digestive ailment. Metabolized by the intestinal bacteria into substances that prevent colon cancer, fiber also helps in the removal of carcinogens and other toxins in the GI tract. It also helps with blood sugar control and cholesterol levels by slowing digestion and maximizing cholesterol removal. Fiber is the only means in which cholesterol is carried out of the body.
Fiber is found in WHOLE FOODS – grains, beans, fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds – NOT FOUND – in meat, fish, eggs, cheese or other dairy products.
There are two(2) basic types of fiber; soluble and insoluble, they act quite differently in your intestinal system.

SOLUBLE
- This fiber helps hold the stool together, so it can be helpful for people who have diarrhea or loose stools. The fiber works by absorbing water and forming a soft sticky gel. As a result stools form and hold together better when soluble fiber is included in the diet.
- It can also help in the management of high cholesterol by trapping cholesterol particles in the intestines.
- Also helps in the removal of metals and toxins, such as radiation
INSOLUBLE
- This fiber doesn’t absorb water; it simply adds bulk to your stool (ex. Bran).
- It helps sweep everything through, sort of like a scrub brush it can help clean the walls
- This type helps to prevent constipation, diverticulosis and colon diseases
